On this hot Sunday afternoon, as we make our way upto the Bahnhöfli, suddenly sweet melodies start to envelop us. At the Bahnhofplatz, Barrel organists from near and far, in their traditional colourful period clothes, each different and unique, but bound by a love for an instrument that belongs to a bygone era, are playing organs of all shapes, sizes and styles. The musical bouquet continues with sophisticated performances.. I'm amazed at how melodious mechanical music can be.
After the finale, where everyone joins in leading to a crescendo, as i shake hands with some of them and Thank them for the lovely music, the organists are happy to give an insight into the inner workings and the function of the barrel organs.
