Sharing a Raclette is a great way to enjoy quality time with friends, to switch off and relax. It is not a meal to be eaten in haste. Those in a hurry should go, look for a sandwich.
Traditionally a half round of cheese is placed over a wood or charcoal fire. The molten and toasted top layer of the cheese is scraped onto a plate and the next layer is ready for melting. So, it does take quite sometime till everyone has had his share.. Switzerland's very own Slow Food!!
Raclette originates in Wallis, Switzerland, and is thought to be more than 400 years old. The first written records date back to the early 19th century. It's said that -- “some shepherds were sitting around a fire and had a quarter cheese round with them near the fire. As soon as the cheese started to melt, one of them took a knife, scraped a slice of molten cheese from the round and spread it onto a piece of bread." and Voila.. Raclette was born!! Raclette comes from the French word "racler", meaning "to scrape"..
Our friends Deepak and Yamuna's daughters would like to have a Raclette @ Home experience.
The Swiss serve raclette with boiled potatoes, pickled cucumbers and onions, and White Wine. We like to season the cheese with freshly ground black pepper or paprika and along with potatoes, have some sides of onions, garlic and mushrooms. And in keeping up the traditions of the Wymann Family, we drink Black Tea with lemon slices to help digest the golden deliquescence we've been indulging in...
Molten cheese on boiled potatoes enjoyed slowly while sipping Wine or Black Tea.. What's not to Like???
